Austrian Monumental 45 Day Regulator Wall Clock
This grand wall clock dates to 1875 and hails from Vienna, Austria, which was the center for producing these wonderful regulator clocks. Its date places it in the ornate Alt Deutsch period of regulators. A fine example presented in a beautiful Brazilian rosewood case measuring a monumental 6 1/2 feet in height. The case exhibits the expert craftsmanship and design characteristics of the period. A broken swan’s neck pediment centers an elaborately turned finial atop a curved molding fitted with conforming finials at the outer corners, continuing to free-standing columns flanking the glass door, and finishing with conforming drop pediments on a carved and molded base.
Keeping the time is a single-weight time-only movement designed to run for an impressive 45 days on one wind, and with a sweep seconds hand. The time displays on a two-piece porcelain dial with brass bezels, Roman numerals, and ornate blued steel hands. Signed Franz Unden, Wien.
This clock with its beautiful and commanding presence bears a full restoration and a one-year warranty.
