American Favrile Glass Sherbet, Tiffany Studios
This lovely piece of Favrile glass is skillfully blown, dramatically colored, and has a brilliant iridescence. Various colors flash throughout the lustrous and mesmerizing finish. Exquisitely formed and raised on a short pedestal from a flat foot. The bottom is signed L. C. Tiffany – Favrile, and numbered 87D.
Favrile glass emerged during the Art Nouveau movement with its intriguing iridescence and naturalistic forms. Louis Comfort Tiffany is credited for the invention of Favrile glass in the late 1890s. It is created by adding various colored oxides to molten glass resulting in a fascinating array of colors seamlessly blending together. Such pieces of glass-making mastery as this wonderful little piece are very desirable and highly collectible.
