Large Four Door Victorian Walnut Hunters Cabinet
Victorian Era furniture used and modified many historical styles taken from various time periods in history. This dramatic Victorian walnut hunter’s cabinet features both Gothic and Neoclassical design elements.
The cabinet features six heavily carved panels on four doors, indicative of the Gothic style. The dark, somber images on some of the panels show knights on horseback heading into battle. Other panels also suggest a return home from conquests. Gothic designs often had heroic medieval themes such as this.
Fluted Ionic columns incorporate the Greek Neoclassical design. The decorative garlands and heraldic flags, design elements from many eras, further embellish the cabinet.
These exquisite carvings display skillful woodworking artistry seldom seen today.
Notches inside the cabinet compartments allow for the placement of shelving in a variety of configurations. For a larger space, shelves can be removed.
