American Tall Case Clock by Daniel Dod of Mendham, New Jersey
This exquisitely crafted tall case clock is a beautiful example of early American clockmaking.
The case is crafted of rich flame mahogany, with fine boxwood marquetry inlays adorning the trunk and base in elegant medallion shapes. The clock boasts a regal swan neck pediment with fluted columns on either side, creating a visual symphony of elegance. Two ball and spire finials grace each side at the pinnacle, while a majestic eagle finial commands the center.
The hand-painted arch top iron dial displays the time on Roman numerals, with further calendar, moon dial, and seconds dial complications. Original artwork graces the dial with two birds flaking either side with delicate gilt scrollwork spandrels at the corners. Evocative nautical and pastoral scenes decorate the moon dial, adding interest to the passing phases. An 8-day two-weight movement powers the clock, orchestrating a delightful bell strike on the hour and half-hour. The dial is signed by American clockmaker Daniel Dod of Mendham, New Jersey.
