English Monumental Carved Oak Hall Clock

This impressive hall clock dates to 1895 and exudes a grand presence and dramatic Medieval style. The clock’s case is crafted of oak and displays carved panels in deep relief as well as full-form figural sculptures. The door and base carvings boast various active scenes of townsfolk, royalty, and knights. Elaborate carved columns flank the waist, while full male figures in traditional dress flank the base. The hood features wonderful detailing to include carved finials centering a heraldic shield, carved and shaped moldings, and full-form bears holding tree trunks flanking the center. Carved foliate spandrels are incorporated into the door that opens to the dial.

An 8-day, 3-weight pendulum movement keeps the time and chimes at the quarter-hours. The time displays on a foliate embellished oval brass mask with a silvered chapter ring appointed with stylized brass Arabic numerals and blued steel serpentine hands. A seconds subsidiary dial is located just under the twelve. This movement of the clock is signed Elite, which is likely associated with Winterhalder & Hofmeier of Germany.

Eye-catching from accounts, this monumental clock bears a complete restoration and a one-year warranty.
