French Art Nouveau Poudreuse
A lovely French Poudreuse or dressing table that expresses the luxury and elegance of the Art Nouveau era. Such pieces were intended to emphasize the unique artistry and skill of the highly trained craftsman. This lovely example exudes Art Nouveau characteristics of deep relief carvings of florals and vines. The case of rich Honduran mahogany features a rectangular top with three hinged compartments above a lower central drawer. The center lifts to reveal a serpentine beveled glass mirror flanked by graceful carved flowers and a compartmentalized interior. The two sides open outward for access to additional compartments. The interior is crafted of ash.
Lavish embellishments of carved florals and elaborate floral swags decorate the case on all sides, and the overhanging side compartments are supported with a flourish of carved acanthus leaves. And finally, it is raised on carved and tapering legs ending in leaf feet. This wonderful and chic Art Nouveau piece is suited to a variety of decor, and has many creative uses beyond that of a vanity.
