French Carriage Clock by Stowell & Co.
This late 19th century carriage clock resides in a handsome gilt brass architectural form case. Crafted with a triangular gable top and tympanum embellished with an applied fleur de lis and vine decoration over a case framed with dentil molding, reeded corners, and a cove molded base. It also has beveled glass panels on all four sides and conforming viewing panels atop.
Keeping the time within and visible through the glass side panels is an 8-day mechanical movement with jeweled balance wheel escapement. The time displays on a porcelain dial with Arabic numerals, broken arrow-style hands, and signed (A.) Stowell & Co., Boston. Further, this timepiece bears a complete restoration and a one-year warranty.
