Italian Hand Carved Lectern
This beautiful and unique piece dates to the mid-1870s and speaks to an era of sophisticated artistry and craftsmanship. It is crafted in walnut and embellished with elaborate carvings in beautiful detail on all sides.
A slanted top continues to a single cabinet beneath that opens to an interior fitted with one shelf. The cabinet face depicts an adoration by the Magi of the Christ Child and is flanked by caryatids with cherubic faces and adorned with feathers. The sides and back exhibit lovely horizontal carvings of acanthus leaves and vines over vertical panels with a floral pattern. An orthodoxy crest is also depicted in the center panel of the back.
Beyond its intended use this piece can serve as a book stand or decorative accent piece in a study or a refined eclectic setting.
