Japanese Cast Bronze Koro (Incense) Burner
Burning of incense has been a significant experience in Japanese culture since the 6th century. Various burning methods are used, however, Koros, such as this beautiful cast bronze example, are considered a higher art form for their display of expert craftsmanship and ornamentation. This Koro pays homage to the flora and fauna of the natural landscape. Depicted in high relief and detail are two cranes in flight, twig form handles, and a frog, to name a few. A wonderful piece to use or simply for decorative interest.
