Swiss 13″ Cylinder Music Box with 3 Cylinders
An exceptional music box featuring three interchangeable cylinders, each playing eight tunes. Such a piece was at the forefront of technological advancement in its day and a distinguished musical entertainment luxury. Due to the extremely detailed craftsmanship and cost-prohibitive endeavor of producing a single cylinder, only a rare number feature interchangeability.
The case is a work of art in itself, reflecting the attention to detail and craftsmanship of the era. The instrument resides in a stunning burl walnut case that boasts ebonized trim, kingwood cross banding, marquetry inlays, and decorative brass handles. Brass, ebony, and Mother-of-pearl were used for the beautiful and colorful maquetry inlays. Further, the base pulls out to reveal a drawer for housing each cylinder safely, adding practicality and desirability to the design.
The delightful music box is driven by twin spring barrels and features a tune indicator, tempo control, and zither attachment. A bound set of Programme Cards lists the 24 aires played by the cylinders.
These marvels of musical and mechanical achievement are amongst the rarest and most desirable music boxes surviving today. This musical treasure also includes a full restoration and a one-year warranty.
