A beautiful Swiss cylinder music box made by esteemed George Baker & Co. of Geneva. The Company was known for producing larger, high-quality music boxes such as this wonderful example. The mechanics are housed within a finely crafted case featuring richly ornate burl walnut veneers accented by decorative string inlays, book-matched veneers atop, and ornate brass handles on the sides.

Within, a Longue Marche movement with large double spring barrels provides long play, while the 19 1/2″cylinder and approximately 135 notes of 3 combs emits wonderfully resonant and complex music. Playing 8 tunes or aires. Fitted with a start/stop lever, repeat/change lever, tempo control, and a Roman numeral tune indicator.

An early form of live musical entertainment, this elegant music box would have been a distinguished luxury item.
