French Napoleon III Gilt Bronze Mantel Clock
A delightful French mantel clock from the Napoleon III period when elaborate ornamentation and decoratives was the fashion. Artfully crafted in chariot form of gilt bronze and charmingly appointed with a patinated winged cherub at the reins. The clock resides within the chariot wheel and features a skeleton dial. An 8-day movement with jeweled balance wheel and platform escapement keeps the time. A porcelain dial with Roman numerals and Breguet style hands displays the time. The movement is numbered and signed “Chas. Frodsham, Clockmaker to the Queen, Paris” and bears a Paris exhibition Medaille D’or stamp. Charles Frodsham was a very distinguished horologist indeed and served upon recommendation as Superintendent and Keeper of Her Majesty’s Clocks at Buckingham Palace. Finally, this splendid timepiece bears a full restoration and one-year warranty.
