American Figured Mahogany Banjo Clock
A handsome American banjo wall clock dating to the 1850’s. The banjo clock enjoyed a long run of popularity in homes and businesses and is still favored by collectors today. This fine example is presented in a figured mahogany case with very nice proportions. It is fitted with a full-bodied eagle finial on plinth above a hinged glass door with a wood bezel. Beneath the glass, the time displays on a painted dial with Roman numerals and Breguet-style hands. A tapered neck continues to the base, which is shaped with gently curved sides. The neck and base have lovely ornamental égolmisé glass panels. Keeping the time within is an eight-day weight-driven movement that has been restored.
