Engraved Carnelian Watch Fob in 18K Rose Gold
This fabulous carnelian watch fob dating to 1890 has the provenance of belonging to a baron of Argyll in Scotland. The richly colored stone is set into beautifully sculpted 18K rose gold. The engraved stone portrays the Scott clan crest arranged with the stag trippant above the belt and buckle engraved with the clan motto OMA meaning I love. Script initials AS are engraved at the center. The fob may have also been used as a signature seal on documentation.
Watch fobs initially functioned as decorative accents and access to pocket watches. Today they are avidly collected and prized for their craftsmanship, use as intended, and as decorative pendants and charms.
