American Rare Pianino Orchestrion by Wurlitzer
This marvelous automatic Pianino Orchestrion presents you with wonderful melodies comprising an ‘orchestra’ of a 44-key piano, harpsichord, and flute pipes. The case is expertly crafted of quarter-sawn oak with lovely backlit slag glass panels with a tulip motif in the upper portion. The base is crafted with conforming panels, the center panel having beautifully carved fretwork that is fabric-backed for sound projection.
Crafted in 1905 by Rudolph Wurlitzer Co. of Cincinnati, part of the magic of these musical machines was the combination of electricity and pneumatics. Hence, by a simple flip of a switch or a coin dropped in a slot music filled the air. They also provided a great variety in music. This Pianino Orchestrion plays 5 and 10 tune paper rolls accessed easily by opening the central hinged glass panel in the top.
Wurlitzer is a name synonymous with world-class musical instruments. The Pianino is touted as one of the most successful automatic musical instruments ever made and a key contribution to musical evolution. Its unique music set the tone for the late 1800s thru the 1920s.
