French Unusual Mantel Clock Originally Made for the Turkish Market
This uncommon French mantel clock was originally created for export to the Turkish marketplace in the late 19th century. The crescent top piece suggests the crescent displayed on the Turkish flag. Additionally, the porcelain dial has Turkish numerals.
The case features an ebonized wood free form design enhanced with bone, brass and polychrome enamel inlays. A fancy gilt brass bezel surrounds the dial. Finally, a decorative gilt brass pendulum complements the dial.
This unusual clock would certainly be a welcome addition for the avid collector.
