American Hamilton Marine Chronometer

Englishman John Harrison invented the marine chronometer in 1761 as a long sought-after device for solving the problem of calculating longitude while at sea. It is a precise and specialized clock. Harrison’s invention revolutionized navigation and greatly increased the safety of long-distance sea travel.

This Hamilton chronometer has a 56 hour fusee driven movement and chronometer detent escapement. It also features a helical hairspring with a poised balance wheel. Furthermore, it has a four-inch engraved silvered dial with a power reserve indicator and a seconds dial. The dial reads “Hamilton, Lancaster, Pa. USA”

The chronometer comes in a mahogany, gimbaled case with the original ratcheted winding key. A nameplate on the outside of the case reads “Capt David Welch,” with a serial number 2E11472 noted as well.

The chronometer comes with a one-year warranty.
