American Carved Mahogany Lyre Form Wall Clock
This beautiful American timepiece dates to 1875 and has been expertly formed and proportioned in a richly-grained mahogany case. A cast brass spread-wing eagle finial surmounts the dial, which resides under glass within a formed wood bezel. The center lyre form section incorporates finely carved acanthus leaf scrollwork framing a central églomisé panel with a gold leaf foliate spray. The base contains a hinged door that opens to the pendulum and is also fitted with an églomisé panel with gold leaf design that frames the visible pendulum. A tapering plinth below finishes this handsome wall clock. Overall the mahogany case exhibits a lovely mellow patina.
Keeping the time within is an eight-day weight-driven movement, while the time displays on a painted enamel dial with Roman numerals and arrow hands. The dial bears the signature of S. Smith. And finally, this exceptional timepiece bears a full restoration and a one-year warranty.
