American Reginaphone Style 150, Combination Disc Music Box and Phonograph

The Reginaphone model holds a unique place in the evolution from automated live music to recorded sound. In response to the growing demand for phonographs in the early 1900s, the Regina Music Box Company installed phonographs into many of their existing players, creating a design cleverly named the Reginaphone. Adding an arm, horn, and turntable to its machines meant that households could easily enjoy both options. Many tabletop Reginaphone models, such as this example, survive with their horns and arms removed for convenience to be used solely as music boxes. The Regina Company fit their Reginaphone models with their most sophisticated musical movement, making them exceptional instruments to enjoy today.

This finely crafted example features a 15-1/2″ Regina disc with 156-note short bedplate double-comb movement, delivering rich and complex sound with beautiful resonance. The instrument resides in an elegant, serpentine quarter-sawn oak case, showcasing beautiful wood grain patterns. Equipped with tempo adjustment and zither attachment, this music box allows the listener to fine-tune the speed and add a harp-like resonance to the melodies. This model exemplifies Regina’s quality in sound production and aesthetic appeal, making it a sought-after collector’s item.

This music box bears a complete restoration and a one-year warranty.
