American Replica Lemuel Curtis Girandole Wall Clock
This beautifully ornate timepiece is crafted after the famous Lemuel Curtis girandole clock made during the American Federal period of furnishings. Several notable American clockmakers are credited with crafting and replicating these imposing clocks. This lovely example is crafted in a case of mahogany with gilt. A spread-wing eagle on pedestal surmounts the circular head above the trapezoidal gilded throat with églomisé, or reverse-painted, glass panel and flanked by brass side arms terminating in rosettes. The lower portion of the case features an impressive scene of the mythological Aurora in her chariot on a convex églomisé panel, and finishes with a carved and gilt acanthus leaf pedestal. The glass panels are done in vibrant colors, and the dial and lower glass portion have ball surrounds which are characteristic girandole ornamentation.
Keeping the time within is an 8-day weight-driven movement by Kilbourne & Proctor. The time displays on a hand-painted iron dial appointed with Arabic numerals, pierced orb steel arrow hands, gold painted ring to the inside of the hours, and a central sunburst.
This impressive timepiece bears a full restoration and a one-year warranty.
