American Ripple Case Beehive Mantel Clock by J.C. Brown
This highly collectible version of the American mantel clock was produced in the mid-1800s by J. C. Brown, proprietor of the Forestville Manufacturing Co. in Connecticut. The beehive-style case is crafted in richly grained rosewood and features three patterns of finely carved and rippled molding.
The interior of the clock is accessed by a hinged, conforming door fitted with two glass panels, the lower with its original reverse painted, or églomisé, panel beyond which the pendulum can seen at the center. Keeping the time within is a brass eight-day gong striking movement, while the time displays on the original hand-painted and signed dial with Roman numerals and gothic hands.
In excellent condition overall, including the maker’s label applied to the backboard of the interior with directions and all sorts of historical interest. And finally, this wonderful clock bears a full restoration and a one-year warranty.
