American Walking Stick with Carved Bone Dog Handle
The American walking stick dates to the turn of the 20th century and is a wonderful fusion of artistry and functionality. The carved bone handle in this example portrays the elongated bust of a snarling dog fitted with glass eyes. Expert craftsmanship is portrayed in the laid back ears, bared teeth, and musculature. The design cleverly serves as an extended support. The smooth patinaed brown hardwood shaft is accented with a brass ring beneath the topper and fitted with a brass tip. With unique and artistic toppers, walking sticks and canes are very popular collectibles and continue to serve as stylish walking aids.
