Art Deco Era Wristwatch by C.H. Meylan for Black Starr & Frost
Step into a world of timeless elegance with this Art Deco wristwatch by C.H. Meylan for famed American jewelers Black Starr & Frost.
This wonderful antique wristwatch features an impressively thin tonneau-shaped case fashioned from lustrous 18K yellow gold. The timepiece features the smooth, clean lines synonymous with the Art Deco era, perfectly outfitted with the watch’s original silvered dial. Displaying the time are black kiln-fired Roman numerals, a technique that involves firing and fusing finely ground enamel pigment into the dial surface to ensure each numeral and marker lasts in vibrancy. A 17-jewel manual wind movement powers this timepiece, adjusted to 5 positions.
Swiss watchmaker Charles-Henri Meylan began his career in Geneva and London. He ultimately gained prestige for bringing rarely-seen high-complication movements to the United States market, even presenting and winning awards for his watches at America’s first World’s Fair in Pennsylvania. The Meyland company continued after Charles-Henri’s death in 1916, producing small, ultra-thin, and chronograph movements for private luxury labels, such as this elegant example shown here.
This wonderful historical and horological treasure bears a complete restoration and an 18-month warranty.
