British Cast Iron Umbrella Stand
This charming umbrella stand commemorates 18th-century Scottish woman Mary Campbell. According to lore, Mary Campbell was born in 1763 and earned the nickname “Highland Mary” from her delightful Scottish accent after she moved away from home. In 1786 Mary met and began an affair with the famed Scottish poet Robert Burns, but sadly died shortly after the affair started. Burns was so affected by Mary’s death that he wrote a poem titled ‘Highland Mary’ in her honor, immortalizing her forever in his works.
Crafted of cast iron, this umbrella stand pays homage to Mary Campbell, depicting her beneath an arch of flowers, with her famous nickname “Highland Mary” on the stand below.
