Burmese Hand Carved and Painted Shrine
A wonderful Burmese hand-carved and painted religious relic dating to the early 1800’s. This antique miniature shrine depicts an alter with hand-carved and painted standing Buddha and Buddha monks of varying sizes. Each figure is situated upon a carved and decorative pedestal and holds a special sacred pot. The Buddha is gesturing the mudra of blessing or protection. The shrine has marvelous detailed hand carvings throughout of florals, animals, and architectural trims. Pomegranates trim the bottom of the front and sides, considered in Buddhism as one of three blessed fruits. Overall this intriguing red wooden shrine bears a lovely warm patina from age.
