Chinese Cast Iron Medicine Brewing Hibachi with Mixing Vessel and Teapot
A traditional hibachi is a portable heating or cooking device made from or lined with heat or flame-resistant material. It utilizes burning coals as the heat source.
This cast-iron Chinese medicine brewing hibachi has both a mixing vessel for herbs, botanicals, and other ingredients and a teapot for heating liquids. The hollowed rectangular base would sit atop the coals. It has an opening to stir the coals or add more fuel. Both the teapot and mixing vessel set atop the base. Each has a copper lid. Additionally, an artist’s signature is etched on the underside of each lid.
A hibachi would have been a necessary Chinese household item in times past much as a microwave is today.
