Chinese Dragon Incense Clock
This Chinese wooden dragon incense clock shows ingenuity in its simplicity.
Hand carved and painted, the hollowed out body has small metal supports connected to each inner side at prescribed intervals. The space between the supports represents a length of time.
Place a long incense stick atop the supports. Because it burns at a steady rate, time can be calculated as the incense stick reaches each metal support. Furthermore, the nine supports might suggest a ninety minute clock cycle. No gears or springs needed.
