Chinese Intricately Carved and Pierced Soapstone Sculpture
This impressive Chinese soapstone carving depicts a grapevine bearing fruit and two little foraging critters among the vines. Intricately carved and pierced in great detail into soapstone of a warm yellow hue subtly accented by rouge veining. The carving rests upon a conforming carved and pierced mahogany-hued soapstone stand. Carving soapstone requires sophisticated skill and has been an important art form in various cultures for thousands of years.
