Chinese Rosewood Bracket Clock
This exquisite bracket clock dates to the 1840s and is a rare example of Chinese clockmaking.
Within, an 8-day, two-train fusee movement with a crown wheel verge escapement powers the clock, a wonderful example of Chinese interpretation of English clockmaking. A crown wheel verge escapement further ensures accurate timekeeping, while the sweep center seconds hand adds a touch of sophistication that would have been uniquely popular within the Chinese market. Though English-inspired in engineering, the clock resides in a rich rosewood case embellished with scrollwork and mirror accents that beautifully showcase Chinese design and elegance.
With each passing hour, the clock announces its presence with a melodious hour bell strike, resonating with a gentle and clear tone. At its center lies a sizable convex porcelain dial, adorned with Roman numerals that stand out against its pristine surface. Surrounding the dial is an elaborately engraved cast brass dial surround, showcasing intricate flowers, animals, pagodas, and figures. The hand engravings continue onto the back plate, adding a unique and elegant flourish.
This clock bears a complete restoration and a one-year warranty.
