English 20K Yellow Gold Pair Case 1/4 Hour Repeater Pocket Watch
This early English quarter-hour repeater pocket watch represents an amazing time-keeping technology. It tells the time not only visually but also auditorily. A button on the case is pushed, and the watch strikes one to four times depending on the nearest quarter-hour. Then a second strike announces the actual hour, one to twelve. For example, two strikes followed by five strikes tells you it is approximately 5:30.
The watch has a 20K yellow gold pair case. An outer hinged case serves to protect the actual pocket watch. This outer case is decoratively pierced and engraved. Within the bottom of the outer case appears to be later paperwork attributed to Alex Smith of Inverury. The paper indicates Smith as being a watch and clockmaker who perhaps repaired this watch as well. The pocket watch rests within the outer case. The same fine piercing and engraving likewise enhance the watch case.
A cream color dial displays Roman and Arabic numerals. A convex crystal protects the dial.
The movement employs a key wind chain-driven fusee with a diamond endstone. The time set also utilizes the same key on an arbor in the middle of the dial. The movement is signed Strigel of London. The watch comes with a one-year warranty.
