English Ebony Basket Top Bracket Clock
The well-designed bracket clock is a lovely example of early English clockmaking. Encased in distinctive ebony wood, wonderful flame-shaped finials crown the top of the clock, adding interest and dimension to the case. In wonderful contrast to the case’s rich color, the clock face is spectacularly crafted with a hand-engraved brass arch top dial with luxurious cast gilt brass spandrels and medallion in the arch. The artistry continues onto a hand-engraved brass backplate visible through a glass panel. A faux pendulum oscillates back and forth in a charming aperture below the 12 o’clock, adding intriguing motion to the clock dial.
The clock displays the time on Roman numeral hours with an Arabic numeral minute track. Further, a calendar display and strike and silent switch add convenient functionality to the clock. An 8-day two-train fusee movement powers this clock, which strikes a bell on the hour and half-hour.
This wonderful clock displays the maker’s signature on the dial, Skikel Thorp, London.
