English High Grade Replica of William Strutt Epicycloidal Skeleton Clock
Englishman William Strutt designed the epicyclic, or planetary, gear for a timepiece in 1829. An epicyclic gear, like the one that powers this clock, functions similarly to our solar system. There is a central/sun gear that drives surrounding planet gears contained within an outer ring. Due to the complexity of these timepieces, very few were made.
This fine skeleton timepiece is a replica and was crafted in the early 1970’s. It showcases the 8 day epicycloidal fusee drive anchor escapement beautifully. Adding to the wonderful artistry of this clock is the pierced and silvered radial dial with large Arabic numerals. In addition, the clock is mounted on a brass base and is in a brass and glass case.
This complex timepiece is both beautiful and fascinating and comes with a one year warranty.
