English Silver Pickle Caster with Cobalt Glass
A beautiful piece of Victorian tableware and art glass. The ornamental pickle caster adorned many a well-to-do Victorian table. They were intended to be elaborate and a symbol of one’s status. Such tablewares are avidly collected today. This lovely and rare example boasts a highly desirable cobalt blue jar fitted within an 800 silver frame. The decorative frame is raised on four feet and depicts graceful Roman figures among Corinthian columns. Also with a conforming lid and reeded handle. The 800 silver mark indicates an alloy, or composition, of 800 parts silver combined with 200 parts of other metals for durability and strength. Overall an exquisite decorative piece suited for a myriad of purposes.
