English Silver Plate Epergne with Camel Base
This enchanting late 19th-century English epergne displays exquisite artistry and exotic design. Three seated camels make up the base, supporting a marvelous silverplate frame. Each animal is crafted with masterful realism and adorned with delicate scrollwork and beautiful cast drapery. The elegant frame extends upward to elevate a mouth-blown glass tray above the sculptural base. Finally, a trio of cast lions with centurion helmets surround a lovely etched tulip-form base.
Most fashionable in the Victorian era, the epergne graced tables as lavish multi-tiered centerpieces, often used to hold flowers and serve fruits, nuts, and other confections. This beautiful and captivating epergne will surely add a touch of unique elegance to any tablescape.
