English Tall Case Clock
This lovely English tall case clock dates to the mid-19th century and hails from the seaport town of Hull in Yorkshire County, England. It is crafted beautifully in 1/4-sawn oak and has aged to a warm and rich patina. The pagoda top bonnet is flanked by brass ball-and-spike finials and reeded and brass-capped columns; the waist has conforming half columns and a brass escutcheoned door with decorative applied molding and line inlay. Raised on a solid plinth base with molding trims.
Keeping the time within is an 8-day, 2-weight movement that marks the hour with a bell strike. The time displays on a vibrantly hand-painted arch-top iron dial featuring a four continents decorative theme, with stylized Arabic numerals, seconds dial, and fitted with ornate gilt hands. Further, the dial is signed “Richies, Hull,” which is indicative of the clockmaker and locale.
This wonderful tall case bears a full restoration and a one-year warranty.
