French Bronze Sculpture of Oedipus Blessing His Daughter
This finely crafted French bronze sculpture depicts a Greek allegorical scene. In it, Oedipus bestows a blessing on his daughter Antigone. The classic Greek story has many tragic plot twists involving these two characters. But through all the complexities of their relationship, Antigone stays by his side as the dutiful daughter.
Note the exquisite sculptured details. The robes of both characters drape quite naturally. The hair, hands and feet also reflect skillful detailing.
The figures sit atop a granite base with bronze relief panels. Hand chased details such as a chariot race embellish the panels.
