Swiss Carriage Clock By L. Vrard & Co. For The Chinese Market
This stately oversized Swiss carriage clock was crafted in the late 1800s for L. Vrard & Co.; prestigious specialists in timepieces for the Chinese market. This impressive clock resides in an ornate brass case crafted with Corinthian columns on all four sides. Accenting the bottom of the case in artful detail is foliate scrollwork showcasing elegant style and depth.
Powering the clock is an 8-day movement with an hour and half-hour strike on a tuned gong. Further, the clock boasts a repeat-at-will feature. Two striking silvered dials create a marvelous contrast against the richly gilded brass case. The time displays on Roman numerals with a sweep center seconds hand and a subsidiary dial with Arabic numerals to set the alarm feature.
