French Carriage Clock with Barley Twist Columns
Carriage clocks were very popular timepieces and remain a collectible favorite. This distinctive classical-style French carriage clock dates to the late 1800’s. The expertly crafted gilt brass case has full barley twist columns with Corinthian capitals at the four corners, and the twist design is repeated in the carry handle. It also has beveled glass panels on all four sides and the viewing panel at the top.
Keeping the time within is an eight-day mechanical movement with a gong strike at the hour and half-hour. The time displays on a white porcelain dial with Roman numerals and spade and whip hands. The movement is marked “R & Co” and bears a full restoration and a one-year warranty.
