French Cast Brass Mantel Cartel Clock
This impressive French mantel cartel clock is highly ornate as was the trend of the opulent Louis XIV style. The gilt brass case is elaborately appointed from top to bottom — from the plumed helmet fixed to the domed top flanked by flame finials, to the animal paw feet. In between, one observes various architectural motifs, canted corners, scrolling and foliate forms, and a pierced surround with a central “Sun King” image of Louis XIV.
The time displays on an equally ornate engraved dial with porcelain cartouche Roman numerals and ornate pierced hands. Within, an 8-day mechanical movement keeps the time and marks the hour and half-hour with a clear bell strike. Further, this fine French timepiece bears a full restoration and a one-year warranty.
