French Crystal Regulator with Glass Columns
This elegant crystal regulator by AD Mougin dates to the late 1880s and is beautifully ornamented. The brass framed case with beveled glass panels is surmounted by a decorative urn, appointed with finials at each corner, and raised on four turned feet. The four canted corners are embellished with rose medallion ormolu and fitted with pretty cut-glass columns. Cast brass foliate and ribbon ormolu adorn the frieze and base of the front and sides, while unique floral and lattice overlays add an additional decorative touch to the front and side glass panels.
Keeping the time within is an 8-day pendulum movement with a pleasing gong strike at the hour and half-hour. The pendulum is of the two-jar mercury style, and the back plate of the movement is stamped by the maker. The time displays on a hand-painted porcelain dial with floral swag, Arabic numerals, pierced gilt serpentine hands, and rests within an embossed and beaded surround.
Lavishly embellished and with a commanding presence at 16 inches in height, this impressive timepiece also bears a complete restoration and a one-year warranty.
