French Figural Mantel Clock
Figural clocks often tell a story as well as telling time. In this case, a young girl holds a mandolin while sitting atop some sort of hedgerow. Birds and flowers are part of her perch. Additionally, a knapsack is below her suggesting she is a traveling minstrel.
The sculpture is fashioned in bronzed patinated spelter. It sits atop a reuge marble base. Attached to the base is a title plaque that reads “Mignon” which is French for cute. The plaque also reads Par L & E Moreau Mlle d’ Or.
An engraved gilt frame encircles a beveled glass crystal which covers a hand painted dial. The dial has arabic numerals and is signed J Blanchetiere Toulon.
A fully restored two train eight day movement strikes on a bell every hour and half hour. The clock comes with a one year warranty.
