French Finely Carved Hall Clock by O. Carry
This splendid hall clock has a commanding presence, as is expected of a hall clock. Hall clocks were meant to be noticed, and to make a statement about an owner’s stature and grasp of science and mechanics. The walnut case has a wonderfully warm and rich patina. Expertly and elaborately carved throughout with shell, acanthus leaf, and swag motifs to the case; carytid pillars on the bonnet flanking the dial; and a lovely cherub face in the crown. Also, dentil and medallion carvings are displayed on the base.
A two-train weight driven movement keeps the time and strikes at the hour and half hour on a coiled gong. The very decorative dial is engraved and silvered with Roman numerals at the hour and Arabic minute markers, and with stylized serpentine hands. Further, the visible pendulum is equally decorative with silvering and engravings. Signed O. Carry, Paris. This beautiful hall clock bears a full restoration and comes with a one year warranty.
