French Oversized Corinthian Column Carriage Clock
This monumental carriage clock displays excellent craftmanship and superior horological skill. The case is crafted of gilt brass with Corinthian columns flanking the clock face. Cast brass putti and a central shield adorn the base adding magnificent architectural dimension. The clock face features a lovely convex porcelain dial with Arabic numerals and a secondary dial to govern the alarm. A beautiful silver dial mask complements the case and dials perfectly in attractive contrast.
Residing within the impressive clock case is an equally exceptional 8-day, repeat-at-will Grand Sonnerie and Petite Sonnerie movement. The Grand Sonnerie will strike the number of hours on one gong followed by the number of the quarter-hour on a second separately tuned gong every quarter-hour, thus allowing the listener to know the time within 15 minutes every time the clock strikes. While the Petite Sonnerie enables the clock to strike only the quarter-hours each quarter and the hour each hour. In addition, the clock also has a silent position, giving the listener the option to experience the clock in whichever manner they so choose.
The complexity of the Grand and Petite Sonnerie striking systems made movements this elaborate exorbitantly cost-prohibitive for most clockmakers to produce. Thus, making clocks of this extreme complexity among the most noteworthy finds today.
This astounding clock bears a complete restoration and a one-year warranty.
