French Regency Style Rosewood Mantel Clock
This Regency-style mantel clock is a wonderful example of early 19th-century French clockmaking.
Crafted of luxurious Brazilian rosewood, the rich hue forms the backdrop for intricate marquetry inlays, depicting delicate floral motifs and graceful scrolls. Standing atop the clock, a silvered dial displays the time upon Roman numerals with elegant Breguet-style hands and a wreath-form gold leaf bezel, further accentuating the clock’s regal presence. Below, a hand-engraved silvered thermometer graces the clock’s facade, displaying both Fahrenheit and RĂ©aumur scales and adding functionality and charm to the clock. The combination of rich wood, intricate marquetry, and lavish gold leaf creates a visually stunning piece that exudes timeless allure.
An 8-day movement with silk thread suspension powers the clock, which strikes a bell on the hour and half-hour.
