French Skeletonized 1/4 Hour Repeating Automaton Pocket Watch
This incredible early 19th-century French pocket watch is a work of horological art. Featuring a true marvel of watchmaking, this lovely pocket watch possesses two impressive complications, a quarter-hour repeater mechanism in concert with automation in the dial. With the push of a lever, the watch will chime on two gongs, audibly announcing the time to the nearest 15 minute mark. With the trigger of the repeater action, the watch comes to life, and the figures of a male and female decorating the dial will move their arms to strike bells in synchronization with the chime. This fantastical motion all appears above a fully skeletonized dial, allowing the viewer to watch the strike system in action.
Mechanical achievements such as automata were at the forefront of technological advancement in their day, and among the highest luxuries to own. Finding an example combining not only watchmaking, but the rarity of automation and the mechanical complexity of a quarter repeater is a true feat.
A key wound and key set movement powers this outstanding watch, which bears a complete restoration and 18 month warranty.
