German Polyphon 15 1/2″ Disc Music Box
A beautiful disc music box expertly crafted by renowned German manufacturer Polyphon of Leipzig, Germany. Dating to 1890 and masterfully crafted in a burl walnut case with lovely floral marquetry on the lid exterior and hand-carved detail throughout. The richness of the burl grain adds interest and dimension to the artistry of this wonderful musical piece. In addition to the marquetry on the outer lid, the inner lid displays a delightful cherubic musical scene under glass.
Residing within are the musical mechanics featuring a double-comb mechanism that produces a beautifully rich and complex sound. Another nice feature of this particular box is the location of the winding crank on the interior. A simple winding of the crank powers the mechanism, while the flick of a lever lets the musical magic begin. This box plays the popular 15 1/2″ discs, which are widely available and interchangeable with Regina discs, and represents some of the broadest disc availability on the market today. In addition to hundreds of antique discs, over 1,000 titles are available on newly produced discs. A selection of six antique discs is included with this music box.
This splendid musical box bears a complete restoration and a one-year warranty.
