Japanese Bronze Deer Sculpture
This beautifully cast Japanese bronze sculpture depicts a vigilant deer stag. Expert craftsmanship portrays a lithe, athletic form. Likely with Art Nouveau influence as characterized by the extended antlers. Deer were a popular art subject during the Art Nouveau era and are a favored animal in Japanese culture. This particular bronze is also decorated overall with a contrasting pattern in gold that adds interest and dimension to the patina. Signatures in Japanese characters are located on the head and rear of the figure.
