Japanese Bronze Sculpture of a Wood Cutter
This bronze sculpture wonderfully portrays the Japanese woodcutter, a popular figure in Japanese folklore. The subject, clad in traditional woodland attire, has his gathered wood or bamboo strapped onto his back, and carries a pouch likely for water. Very nicely detailed to capture the drape of clothing, movement, and expression of the cutter. It also bears an unusual rustic patina.
