Pocket Chronometer Pocket Watch By Grant for Coward & Co. of Cornwall

A fine example of early English horology, this 18K yellow gold key-wind, key-set pocket chronometer was crafted by Grant of Fleet Street, London, bearing serial number #2205 and marketed by Coward & Co. of Cornwall

The watch features a chronometer detent escapement movement designed for high accuracy. The unique split dial features an oversized subsidiary seconds, with hours and minutes in a separate register above. The format was likely used by such professions as astronomy or navigation, where the user needs to read the time accurately to the second with ease. The original movement has been meticulously preserved in a heavy 63mm open-faced later case. The case was recreated by fourth-generation custom watch case maker Martin Matthews (1935-2013) and hallmarked in 1973, ensuring a faithful restoration of its period elegance.

This exceptional timepiece embodies the precision and craftsmanship of a true chronometer, designed for superior accuracy.

This watch bears a complete restoration and a one-year warranty.
