Rare Skeleton Double Dial Calendar Clock by Ithaca
A rare and prized collectible among clock collectors, this notable skeleton clock was produced by the Ithaca Calendar Clock Company of New York. Henry B. Horton established the company in 1865 shortly after he was awarded patents for perfecting the calendar mechanism. Novel to his mechanism was the inclusion of February 29 during a leap year. This fine example dates to 1870 and is one of the company’s earlier production models.
Crafted with a scroll-form silvered frame and nickel-plated movements. It is powered by a time-and-strike movement that runs for 8 days on a full wind. The upper movement has hour and half-hour bell strikes and displays the time on an open chapter ring with Roman numerals and spade hands. For the lower calendar movement, a crescent moon hand indicates the numeric date on a larger chapter ring open to display two rollers that note the week day and month. Impressively displayed within a handsome walnut case accented with moldings, ebony trim, and carving to the crest.
And finally, this prized horological innovation bears a complete restoration and a one-year warranty.
